KEIJI ODA - DIRECTOR OF ASIAN INITIATIVES
|
After a tragic earthquake shook Japan in 1995, New York Chapter leader Keiji Oda headed back to his homeland to provide assistance and start Guardian Angel initiatives in the Tokyo area. Building on the mission of serving as role models for youth and making communities safe from crime through safety-based education, Keiji built an organization that now has seven chapters throughout Japan.
His dynamic efforts and round-the-clock commitment earned him the "Angel of the Year" award at our seventh International Conference (1993), and in 1999, succeeded in having the Japanese government recognize the Guardian Angels as the country’s first non-profit organization.
A frequent lecturer who speaks more than twice a week to citizens, schools and youth groups, he also hold the position of Instructor at the Japan Police Academy and Special Lecturer at Kurume University. He has authored the book Community Safety by Citizens and is a member of numerous national professional societies focusing on safety and crime related issues and their far-ranging implications.
